1. Do not sleep with tightly braided hair or pony tail. Braiding itself causes some stress on the hair. Sleeping with it causes extra stress while rubbing against the bed or pillow. That may result in breakage of hair. Even while brading, when awake, keep the hair loose. When you have a pony tail or braided hair use only specially treated bands so that they do not harm the hair. Keep the use of clips and bows to a minimum.
2. Every three months your hair must be trimmed. This must be done even if your intention is to grow your hair further. This trimming is necessary to prevent the splitting the ends. If allowed to split, growth will be stopped and the split hair may be broken. If you plan to maintain the current length of your hair the trimming must be done every 45 days or two months.
3. For detangling the hair do not use brush. With the brush more pressure may be used and the hair may break. You may use a pick or wide toothed comb. Your own fingers are the best tools to detangle the hair. Divide your hair into sections and work your way from the roots of the hair to the tips. Do this very gently. Pulling the hair down hard may cause breakage. It is better to detangle the hair before a wash. That makes it easier to dry the hair after wash, detangle again and style it.
4. While drying after a wash, do not rub the hair dry with the towel. It may make the hair to tangle. Only blot your hair with a towel to remove as much water from the hair as possible.
5. While sleeping, if you use a cotton pillowcase your hair may get caught with it. It is more so if you toss and turn a lot in sleep. The stress on the hair may break it. If you use a pillow case made of silk or satin your hair slides over it easily without causing any stress on it. Another way to get over this problem is to cover your hair with a scarf made of silk or satin cloth. Yet another way is to put your hair up at the top of your head in a pony tail using treated band.
6. To spread the oils produced at the root of the hair brush it from the root to the tip carefully and gently. While brushing run your other hand over the brushed hair to remove the static electricity.
